Ask me anything
Hi guys, here’s a free sampler of pages from Chapter 3 of my new book “Ang Panlimang Alas Ay Nakabaon Sa Iyong Dibdib”. Just click on the image here or on the image above to check it out. :D
“Ang Panlimang Alas Ay Nakabaon Sa Iyong Dibdib” is a book about a character (without any redeeming qualities whatsoever for the first 20 pages) who keeps asking too many questions and ends up having them answered all at the same time. Available at Pandayan, Bibliarch, Powerbooks, Fully Booked, and National Bookstores.
Here’s a preview of a part from Chapter 3 of my latest book. I hope you enjoy it. :D
In a few days I will be wrapping up the writing for Girl Trouble 2. I’ve kept putting it off for fear of not writing enough or if I’ve written too much. There’s always that feeling of “am I pushing enough or too far?” that’s always bugging me in the head every time I edit the manuscript. Will holding back make it crappy, or will pressing harder alienate readers? Maybe when I finally get tired of using the excuse of having no formal training in writing I’ll be able to figure out when a book is ready.
It’s going to be proofread next (God help that person, who’ll be subjected to the misery of my mistakes), and when it gets the go signal I will be designing it for a quarter of a year, and hopefully it will be out by the end of 2013.
I don’t know how new readers will respond to Girl Trouble 2 or if it will interest them enough to find Girl Trouble 1, but I hope that those of you who have been with Robin since 2007 will be there when he returns, whether he gets what he wants or deserves in the end.

GT Trivia
When you’re young, you are given clear cut ideas of what love is and how it’s supposed to be and feel. Religion and literature have a lot to do with that, which is good and bad at the same time, depending on how your brain processes the information you’re receiving along with the actual reality you’re going through.
As I was writing GT there was a conscious effort of always trying to be brutally honest and real with each page. I wanted to show that love came in many forms and that most of the time it wasn’t as clear-cut as we were told it would be.
Sometimes it arrives at the worst time possible, effectively pulling every moral rug you’ve comfortably lived your life on. Sometimes it fixes you while your broken and eats at you when you’re better. And sometimes, it just makes you smile while you’re bathed in someone’s blood.

I was a graphic artist at blackpencil when I began making GT. This photo was taken during a tv commercial shoot in an empty building along South Superhighway. I think we were shooting scenes for a coffee or an energy drink maybe. TV shoots most of the time take 10-20 hours so I had a lot of time in-between set-ups and takes to just write and think about a lot of things.
Things like the choices we make to get through the day vs the hard decisions that give us reasons to live. This was in 2006. A crazy year that one was.

Certain elements from the book are homages to things that have inspired me while I was making Girl Trouble.
This passage for example, was an attempt to let Robin deal with his issues by (the lead character) speaking for the Ely Buendia fan-boy in me. Each line here is Robin’s response to the first few lines of the song “Bakit Nga Ba” by the Mongols:
—
Bakit Nga Ba
Mga bagay na kay hirap isipin
Bakit nga ba ang puso tumitibok kahit di mo man pilitin
Masama bang magtanong (3x)
Wala nang balak tapusin ang sinasabi
Bakit ba tumatalon sa tuwa
Kapag ikaw ay nandiyan na

And of course, the number 69 is a homage to… the number 69, of course. :D

“I need to leave this place, because soon, this country will be the death of me. It won’t even be captured on shaky hand-held digital. It will be a quiet, nondescript death, the denouement to a quiet, nondescript life.”

“Seroks, Iteration 1: Mirror Man, is the first in a series of short fiction collections set in the dystopic future world which was first seen in the Palanca Award-winning short story “Kaming Mga Seroks” by David Hontiveros. In this Iteration, paired with the singular artistic sensibilities of Alan Navarra, Hontiveros continues to explore this clone-littered world where everything is a commodity, and everything can be pirated, even people. A world where the truth is ugly and a fake can be a hero.”

For sci-fi and post-apocalyptic fans out there, here’s something new for ya. :D
Hi everyone, I have a huge favor to ask. If anyone finds Girl Trouble in any bookstore or shop can you post pics and tag me? It’s officially out of print but I’ve been told that there are still copies being sold. Thanks!
